What the Night Tells Us

In 2023, Slick and Smick collaborated on the exhibition What the Night Tells Us at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. The exhibition explored the fluidity, energy, and movement of water, drawing inspiration from videos of the Cedar River and the rolling storm clouds over Iowa. As the project evolved, the focus expanded to include the broader themes of momentum, forward movement, and its interconnectedness with earth and sky. The exhibition brought together Smick’s expansive, sweeping screens with Slick’s meticulously detailed aluminum panels, creating a dynamic balance between vast, elemental forces and the intricate textures of the natural world.
