Pictures from the Great Shared Earth

Commissioned in the Spring of 2024, the latest collaboration of the artist team Duane Slick and Martin Smick is a mural that references indigenous storytelling through the character of old man Coyote, the original trickster. The narrative panels spread out over 160 linear feet, lining the western and northern permitter of Brassil Park in the Fox Point neighborhood of Providence RI. They feature aquatic and land animal inhabitants that are native to the coastal state of Rhode Island and reference their importance to the cycles of life to the Narragansett and indigenous peoples.
